It portrays the myth of Apollo and Daphne’s courtship. The ancient temple was destroyed during the Persian Wars and reconstructed following Alexander the Great’s triumph. It now elicits admiration for being in such excellent form. During the Hellenistic period, the Temple of Apollo was constructed.
And it demonstrates that the Romans did not have a monopoly on monumental architectural achievements in that era. Didyma was never a city due to being located inside Miletus’ borders.
Moreover, the Didyma name originates from Anatolian languages. The similarity to the Greek term didymi, which means “twins,” implies that it is linked to Apollo and his twin sister Artemis.
As a result of its Apollonic characteristics, the Temple of Apollo now functions as a Knowledge Center. Furthermore, the head of Medusa, whose eyes turn people into stone, is an essential aesthetic and historical aspect in Didim history.
It’s still utilized as a marker for Didim and the Temple of Apollo today.
